In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to easily set up your Trezor Suite and hardware wallet.

Trezor Suite Download

If you have already installed Trezor Suite on your computer, open the app and use the auto-updater to get the latest version.

If you have just switched from using Trezor Wallet to Trezor Suite, download the correct version for your operating system from their official website.

Setting up Trezor Suite Wallet

Setting up your Trezor device and Suite for the first time is a breeze.

Step 1: Install Trezor Suite

The first step involves downloading and installing the latest official version of Trezor Suite from SatoshiLabs’s official website.

To download the software, ensure that you visit the official website of Trezor Suite.

Step 2: Open Trezor Suite & Connect hardware wallet to your computer

For the second step, you’ll want to open the Trezor Suite software and connect your Trezor hardware wallet device to the USB-C port on your computer.

If you don’t have a USB-C port, you will need to buy a USB-C to USB-A cable.

Decide whether you want anonymous data collection to be enabled within the software and click “Confirm.”

Step 3: Security Check Procedures

Step three involves ensuring that your device’s hologram sticker is intact and untampered with. If you haven’t already, peel off your hologram sticker. It should leave a sticky residue on the device after the hologram has been peeled off.

If there is no sticky residue or the hologram sticker can be peeled off extremely easily, your Trezor Model One or Model T may have been tampered with.

You’ll want to make sure that you purchased from the official SatoshiLabs store or a trusted reseller like Amazon. In addition, ensure that the retail packaging hasn’t been tampered with.

In situations where you suspect tampering has been involved, you’ll want to contact SatoshiLabs support (the company that makes the Trezors).

To proceed, click “Setup Trezor.”

Step 4: Install Firmware

Step four involves installing the latest firmware on your Trezor Model One/Model T. Keep in mind that your hardware wallet device was initially shipped with no firmware.

To continue, click “Install firmware.” Once the firmware is installed, and the Trezor is restarted, click “Continue.”

Step 5: Create a new wallet or restore one from a backup

The next step involves either creating a new wallet or restoring one from a backup. In this tutorial, we’ll select “Create new wallet.”

Step 6: Wallet backup

This step allows you to choose how to backup your Trezor. Thus, either the “Standard seed backup” option or the “Shamir share backup” option.

For simplicity, we will choose “Standard seed backup.” Furthermore, you’ll be prompted to confirm on the Trezor hardware wallet device.

Step 7: Create & write down offline backup seed phrases

After you have successfully set up your Trezor and created a wallet, you should create a backup, which can be used to recover a lost wallet.

We don’t recommend skipping the backup process. To continue, click “Create backup.”

To start the backup seed generation process, click “Begin backup.”

Securing your backup is another vital part of ensuring that only you know the seed phrases for your wallet.

Your Trezor will begin to produce a list of words that you have to write down on a piece of paper.

You may write down the words in the recovery seed card provided in the retail packaging.

You’ll be prompted to confirm on your physical device.

Step 8: Create a PIN to secure your Trezor Model T or Model One

It is essential to create a strong PIN to prevent unauthorized access to your Trezor hardware wallet. Therefore, we do not recommend skipping the PIN creation process.

Click “Continue to PIN” and “Set PIN” to create your PIN.

After setting your PIN, you will want to write down the PIN on a piece of paper. The PIN is used to unlock your physical hardware device when you need to access your funds.

Moreover, click “Continue” to proceed to the next step.

Step 9: Choose cryptocurrencies to show in Trezor Suite & Activate Tor

Step nine involves selecting cryptocurrencies to show in Trezor Suite. You may change this setting at any time.

Note that some coins are ERC20 tokens and can be used by enabling Ethereum.

Scroll down and enable Tor if you want to route all of the Suite’s traffic through the Tor network. This option will increase your overall privacy and security.

To finish the setup process, click “Complete setup.”

Step 10: Check your Dashboard, Portfolio, and Assets

We recommend you check the Trezor Suite dashboard to examine the various coins you have enabled under the “Assets” section.

If you have enabled many coins, it can take some time for them to show up in the “Assets” section.
